Saburo Teshigawara comes from Tokyo. He has studied visual arts and classical dance. He began to choreograph at the age of 28. In 1985 he founded, together with the musician and dancer Kei Miyata, the dance company Karas, ("crow" in Japanese). They won his first international distinction in Bagnolet dance competition in 1986. Teshigawara is among the choreographers who reshaped dance in contemporary Japan, articulating a personal expressive language. A fascinating performer, he conceives his works as a whole, designing lighting, sets, costumes and selecting music. In his performances he produces a total artistic universe, in which he manages to express the most profound sentiments and at the same time the most abstract concepts. One of the main ideas in his work is that time only exists through human movement.
His new production, to be performed in Kalamata, is a duo performed by himself and the extraordinary Japanese dancer Rihoko Sato. The show, Obsession - Un chien A, is inspired by Luis Buñuel’s seminal Surrealist film Un chien Andalou [An Andalusian Dog] (1929), on a script by Buñuel and Salvador Dali.
Teshigawara sees the continual struggle of the human being to attain the “ideal” as an “obsession”. In this struggle, proof of living, everything is at stake: love, art, creation… Using theatre techniques, Teshigawara reproduces the film feeling on stage.

Karas perform in Greece for the first time.
