Japan, as the host country of the 17th EU-Japan Summit, has officially announced that the Summit will be held in Tokyo on 23 April. The Japanese delegation will be headed by Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, while the EU delegation will be led by Slovenian Prime Minister and President of the European Council Janez Jansa, and President of the European Commission José Manuel Durão Barroso.

Signing and Exchange of the Notes on the Japan-EC Customs Cooperation
The signing of the Japan-EC Customs Cooperation Agreement ("Agreement between the Government of Japan and the European Community on Cooperation and Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters") took place on January 30 (Wed) in Brussels between Mr. Takekazu Kawamura, Ambassador of the Mission of Japan to the European Union, and Mr. Igor Sencar, Slovenian Permanent Representative to the European Union, and Mr. Herve Jouanjean, Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission.

Abe to visit Europe Jan 9-13
TOKYO - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Britain, France, Germany and Belgium on Jan. 9-13, 2006 to strengthen bilateral relations and call for cooperation on resolving international issues, especially the North Korean nuclear issue, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki said Monday. EU Institute to be Inaugurated in Kobe
In order to further promote EU-focused education and outreach in Japan, the second EU Institute in Japan (EUIJ) will be officially inaugurated in the Kansai area in Kobe on 30 September 2005. The EUIJ Kansai is a consortium formed by the three Kansai-based universities of Kobe (co-ordinating university), Kwansei Gakuin and Osaka, established on 1 April 2005, with financial support from the European Commission.
